Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have free wi-fi? We have a password-protected network available to patrons with any purchase, during limited hours of the day (check out our blog for further info). The network key changes frequently, so ask for a receipt or the code at the time of purchase. You will be asked to sign on and agree to the terms and conditions of use. Please note that our business is not responsible for any damage done to any electronics that you choose to use while eating and drinking in the cafe. Occasionally we also turn the wi-fi off if there is a special event in the coffeehouse or the bookstore. And FYI, there are only outlets for computer cords in one place– under the bar, which seats three to four people max at a time.

What’s the closest Metro stop to you? The Red Line Van Ness or the Red Line Tenleytown/AU stops are the closest. Both are a 15 min. walk away. A better alternative is the L1/L2 bus on Connecticut Ave which stops right in front of the store.

Can I use my giftcard from Politics & Prose for food/drink in the coffeehouse? Can I bring my own food/drink into the coffeehouse? The coffeehouse is an independently owned business that is separate from the bookstore. We cannot redeem bookstore giftcards for coffeehouse items, but we do offer our own gift certificates– just ask at the counter. And no, we do not allow outside food/drink.

Do you book musicians to perform solo or group shows at the coffeehouse? Sometimes we hold shows with featured musicians in addition to our weekly open mic event. (Sorry, but we don’t typically book out of town people at this time). Check out for details and to get in touch. The best way to learn more about our space and music opportunities is to come visit us in person.

How can I show my art at the coffeehouse? Check out the guidelines for art exhibits at the shop. Please note due to the volume of requests we will only respond to those requests were are interested in.

Is your coffee fair trade certified and/or organic? Is your milk hormone free? It depends. Our roaster, Caffé Pronto, has relationships with a number of estates, farms, and cooperatives from around the globe. Some of them are fair trade certified and organic, or Rainforest Alliance certified. Most of our teas are fair trade certified and organic. Our dairy milk comes from Kreider Farms in PA and comes from cows that have not been treated with rBST Hormones.

Are you hiring? We are always accepting applications, even if we aren’t hiring at the moment. You can download an application here and bring it by the store in person.

Can I find you on Facebook?

Do I have to toast my bagel and put cream cheese on it all by myself? Yes.
