On exhibit through Nov 2011:

Peirce Mill: 200 Years in the Nation’s Capital is an historical exhibit featuring the works of Washington designers/artists Katherine Lenard and Mary Belcher. The exhibit tells the story of how a Quaker milling family became one of the largest landholders in Washington during the 19th century, and the later transformation of the Rock Creek Park mill into a beloved landmark operated by the National Park Service.

An opening reception for this exhibit will be held from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, October 6 at Modern Times Coffeehouse. Complimentary food and drink will be provided to guests and wi-fi will be turned off during those hours. Please join us to learn more about this important landmark just around the bend from us in Rock Creek Park.

The show coincides with the re-opening of the mill after a 20-year shutdown. For more information on Friends of Pierce Mill, check out the website at http://peircemill-friends.org or their Facebook page.

The coffeehouse offers its walls as an exhibition space for emerging and local artists working in a variety of media. We are always improving to make the coffeehouse more amenable to the art community’s needs.

Show durations vary based on the artists’ commitment to promote their work on display and scheduling availability. Although no specific criteria for selection exists, please make sure before contacting us that your collection is:

  • Framed (unless special circumstances are present)
  • Large enough/enough pieces to fill the spaces available
  • Appropriately sized (wall dimensions available on request)
  • Suitable for a high traffic area where food and beverages are consumed

We ask that artists commit to promoting their show. We require an opening reception catered by Modern Times of at least $200. Although we allow outside catering for art openings, we must ask a 10% surcharge for the utilization of service and space. Interested artists may contact us via email with electronic samples and a bio/artists’ statement at art@moderntimescoffeehouse.com. Please note due to the volume of requests we will only contact those requests that we are strongly interested in.

You can always check our blog for information on the current exhibit.
